Lumbini is situated about 355 km
southwest of Kathmandu. It was a beautiful garden during the reign of the
Shakya dynasty in southwestern Nepal. This place is famous because here Lord
Buddha was born in 560 BC. The birth of Buddha in Lumbini was recorded in the
inspiration of the pillar. Ashoka's pilgrimage to Lumbini has also been
recorded on a stone pillar from 300-325 BC. When a Chinese traveler, Wen Seg- Tsai,
visited this place in 300-325 AD, he found there the tree of birth (Ashoka), a
lapis lazuli statue depicting the scene of Buddha's birth, and the footprints
of the seven footprints of Buddha enclosed and covered by lapis lazuli slabs.
The monuments unearthed in these excavations are the temple of Mayadevi (Mother
of Buddha), the Ashoka Pillar with its 9 m sandstone shaft of five-line
inspiration, the bell capital, and many things of religious and historical
importance.
Mayadevi Temple
The temple of Mayadevi, the mother of
Buddha, is located near the Ashoka pillar. The statue of Mayadevi is made of a
stone that is believed to be 2000 years old. People worship both Mayadevi and
Rupadevi.
Puskar Pond
South of Mayadevi's temple is the
Puskar pond, where Mayadevi bathed before giving birth to Buddha, who took his
purifying bath in this pond.
Lumbini Garden
The entire Lumbini area is considered
a garden. Many monasteries were built with the help of different countries such
as Thailand, Srilanka, and Japan.
The whole Lumbini garden area will
become an international center for Buddhist pilgrimage and study. A Japanese
architect, Professor Kenzo Tange, developed the master plan of Lumbini.

Cultural consideration
For those visiting Nepal, we recommend
cultural information to help you adapt and feel comfortable:
The dress code is essential for both
men and women. Both men and women should wear pants rather than shorts while
traveling in Nepal. It is acceptable for men to wear vests, but women should
try to be as modest as possible in these situations.
Hindu people are very concerned about
ritual contamination of food if someone outside their caste or religion touches
it. Therefore, do not feel the cooked food on the screen. When you touch from a
vessel used by others, do not touch your lips. Do not eat with the left hand
and eat or receive only with the right hand. Shoes are considered degrading. So
leave them on the floor and remove them before putting your feet on anything.
When entering a Nepali home, follow your host's directions on whether to remove
your shoes. However, if you enter a temple or monastery, you should take them
off.
On the way, you will pass Buddhist
walls, Chorten, and Buddhist stupas, which you will place on the right side,
following the local tradition.
Travel insurance
Travel insurance for each of our
company's itineraries is a requirement for booking a vacation. As a minimum,
emergency medical and repatriation insurance, including the costs of mountain
rescue, theft, loss, damage, and clinical problems, is an excellent idea for
travel in Nepal. There is a wide variety of policies available. Read your
insurer's terms and conditions carefully, especially an essential part of the
fine print. Some policies exclude "dangerous activities" such as
motorcycling and trekking, bungee jumping, and rafting.
Choose a policy covering clinical
repatriation and emergency repatriation, including trekking helicopter
evacuation and general medical evacuation. You may prefer a policy that pays
directly at the hospital rather than paying at the time and claiming later. In
Nepal, most clinical treatments must be paid for at the time of admission. If
your insurance does not pay in advance, be sure to obtain receipts to claim
later.
It would be best to understand that
you will be responsible for the cost of evacuation and repatriation procedures.
It is your responsibility to pay for evacuation or medical treatment. You
should be aware of the implications of your travel insurance and understand the
limitations and exclusions of your policy. Please note that, in certain
circumstances, our company guide may initiate helicopter (or other necessary)
rescue procedures in the event of a medical emergency without first obtaining
approval from your insurance company.
GOOD TO KNOW
·
Smile and greet
the locals with "Namaste."
·
Shake hands
whenever you have the opportunity.
·
Walk in a group
or keep a distance that allows you to see the person in front and behind you.
·
Talk to your tour
guide before trying anything new during your visit.
·
Ask the guide
questions that are not clear to you.
·
Inform your guide
if you are not feeling well or if you need any items.
·
Enjoy your free
time shopping.
·
Take lots of
pictures. (No one knows what will happen tomorrow).
Don’t Do
·
Do not disrespect
local culture and beliefs, even if you are not comfortable with them.
·
Would you mind
not taking pictures of the locals you meet on your tour without their
permission? It may not be very respectful to them.
·
Don't be offended
if the locals stare at you. They are just surprised to see you. They don't mean
to offend you.
·
Do not harm wild
animals, birds, and plants during the tour, and take a global perspective and
responsibility to save and preserve this unique environment.
·
Please do not
give money to children and beggars, as it encourages them to beg even more
instead of working and earning money.
·
Do not wear short
dresses when visiting temples.
·
Do not carry
dangerous weapons during the trip.
·
Don't hesitate to
say "no" if someone tries to sell you something you don't want. You
won't offend them, especially if you smile and say "no, thank you."
With domestic flight
Flying to Lumbini is the easiest and
fastest way but also the most time-consuming. You fly from Kathmandu to
Bhairahawa airport, which is a 45-minute round-trip flight. You will then drive
30 minutes to Lumbini, check into your hotel and start your tour of Lumbini.
With the bus
The bus ride can take 8 hours to reach
Lumbini from Kathmandu. This access offers an economic Lumbini tour and for
those who love a long trip. However, the itinerary is the same as the above
domestic flight.
Autumn
Autumn is the best season to visit
Lumbini and explore its monuments and architecture. The monsoon retreats,
leaving behind weather that begins to cool after the scorching conditions and
the skies and atmosphere clear, providing ample opportunity for sunrises and
sunsets.
You can take a flight from Kathmandu
to Siddhartha Nagar, which is 22 km from Lumbini. From there you can take
buses. If you travel by bus from Kathmandu, Pokhara, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi,
you can reach Sunauli, which is about 30 km from Lumbini.
The holiest place in the world
The tranquillity, aura, and peace
experienced at Lumbini make it one of the most sacred places in the world to
visit. Lumbini means love in Sanskrit, and the place is responsible for making
you feel spiritual love.
Lumbini is the birthplace of the
Buddha, one of the most important spiritual sites in the world. It attracts
Buddhist pilgrims from all over the globe. It is said that the newborn prince
Siddhartha (later Buddha) took his first seven steps here and transmitted his
message of peace to humankind.
About 155 kilometers
Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha,
is located in the western Terai of Nepal, near the border with India. It is
about 155 miles (250 kilometers) from Kathmandu and is not the most comfortable
overland journey. Flying is much easier. Here are the travel options between
Kathmandu and Lumbini.
Travelers can reach Lumbini from
Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan in Nepal, or start from India. If traveling from
Kathmandu to Lumbini, one can take a long bus ride or fly to a nearby place and
then transfer to Lumbini. Considering the time taken and the comfort and
convenience, it is more advisable to take a flight.

I booked and took a day trip to
Lumbini in 2018. It was my great opportunity to visit this heavenly place in a short
time. Kishor organized it very well. I was picked up from my hotel on time; the
guide was helpful and experienced in Lumbini. I had enough time to visit the
place. My recommendation for all travel to use this agency for any trip to
Nepal.

I was looking for a tour and wanted to
be Buddha's place. I found Nepal Tour & Trekking Service P. Ltd on TripAdvisor.
After reading excellent reviews of previous clients, I contact them immediately.
Mr. Kishor was speedy in responding and have a complete itinerary about
visiting Lumbini. The one-day program was worth leaving Kathmandu after
breakfast and returning to Kathmandu in the evening before dinner. They handled
all my arrival and departure very well. The guide in Lumbini was informative
and seemed professional. I took a Lumbini Garden tour as a Kishor suggested
before my flight, which did not cost me more. Visiting places, there was quite remarkable
with beautiful monasteries with nice decoration and clean area. Even though it
was a very short trip with Kishor and his agency, I was delighted with the service
and arrangement. I’m sure that I will visit Nepal once again and indeed use
this agency for my next trip

My husband and I took an 11-day tour
of Nepal and had a fantastic time. We could see a beautiful and historical side
of Nepal that we would not have found on our own. Kishor was an excellent
manager with great planning skills. Also fantastic trip in Chitwan and Lumbini.
It was a truly memorable trip to Nepal. Many thanks to the team of Nepal Tour
